Welcome to Year 1!
Children in Year 1 are taught with Year 2 by Miss Wright in the morning, and then join Nursery and Reception with Mrs Lee in the afternoon.
When your child joins Wiggonby, you will get an invite to use the app, Seesaw. We use Seesaw to communicate with you throughout your child's time at Wiggonby. We share photos of the things we have been up to at school and communicate with you both as a group of parents and with information about your individual child.
Homework in Year 1 (and Reception from Spring term onwards)
Reading- Read at home at least 5 times per week and you will notice the difference within a few months! Each week, you will take home a reading book at your level and a mini-book that matches sound we have learnt that week in phonics.
Maths- Your login details for Doodle Maths is in your orange homework book. Try to stay in the green zone! You might also like to try the One Minute Maths app that we use in school.
Spelling- our school now uses 'Spelling Shed'- an online programme that helps you learn to spell. We set a weekly spelling assignment which is a set of words to practise. These are words that you have already been taught in your phonics lessons. We use Spelling Shed at school and also encourage you to use it at home- log in details are in the back of your homework book.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
